Who we are:

Circles is a program of the Envision Opelika Foundation that works to reduce the rate of poverty in Opelika and surrounding communities.  Our goal is to assist our participants reach at least 200% of the federal poverty guideline and to increase their social capital.  We address the “whole person” in this process to include working with the children.  We provide training, help identify resources and help facilitate meaningful relationships with others.

Project Summary:

Circles Opelika, a local poverty prevention program aimed at reducing poverty in the local community and surrounding areas was very lucky to have a very engaged and supportive advisory committee member, Dr. Robert Lofton. He made a final request for individuals to support Circles at the time of his death and the response was well received by the community. As a result and a way of honoring him for all his support, we are implementing an Educational Fund for our program participants to make an investment in themselves, by participating in an educational training or program that will enhance their well-being. Our approach to poverty is holistic and we address all aspects of the family to include educational advancements as a tool to better their financial status.

How this will benefit the community:

This project will increase the long-term economic status of a family that we currently serve as well as honor a long-term community supporter. He believed in the Circles and felt as if the families needed opportunities to make a difference in their lives and this could provide such an opportunity. It will also allow individuals to assist as we continue to carry out the great works of Dr. Robert Lofton while serving a population in need.
