Both staircases to our Viewing Blinds are becoming structurally unstable and need to be replaced. Additionally, the backwater on the northern side of the Preserve has filled up a much larger area than when the original bridge was built. Thus, the bridge needs improvements to lengthen it at both ends. FRIENDS will provide tools and labor, but we need funds for treated lumber and fastening materials.
The Wood Duck Nature Preserve attracts local individuals, families, and groups seeking an outing in an undeveloped, woodsy, outdoors environment. The Preserve is known to the statewide birding community as a destination for a wide variety of birds and waterfowl. In addition, the Preserve is used as an outdoor classroom by members of Auburn University and other local organizations. Implementing these plans will help maintain the safety and convenience of all visitors.
