The Opelika Theatre Company, a nonprofit organization under the Community Foundation of East Alabama, was established in August of 2015 in Opelika, Alabama. The idea was conceived by 3 friends, as they were casually talking about Opelika needing a community theatre to support the amazing talent in this area. An email was sent out to many area residents to attend a start-up meeting and VOILA! A core group of people made a commitment to give birth to this remarkable program. The artistic director of OTC is very proud of and thankful for her wonderful staff and The Community Foundation of East Alabama for making this dream possible.
To empower, enlighten, and involve the community to stimulate and develop their inner creative talents in writing, acting, music, dance, design, and leadership by providing quality entertainment for our communities; and to carve paths not yet traveled.
The “Curtain Call” project aesthetically adds new dimensions to the Southside Center for the Arts Building. Envision Opelika, the Community Foundation of East Alabama, and East Alabama Arts, has been an amazing partner to work with on every endeavor and production we put on. This project not only benefits the Opelika Theatre Company and Stage Productions, but by purchasing new stage curtains we will increase marketing opportunities for other organizations requiring a more intimate stage setting.
Theatre is about community and the experiences we all share together. Community is about people and involvement for young and old alike. Helping to restore the auditorium and stage is a dream the Opelika Theatre Company has had since we first entered the building. We want to preserve the integrity, the charm, and beauty of this historic building and give the community something they can be proud of. Opelika is a culturally diverse community that is becoming more heavily involved in the Arts. We need to invest in that involvement.
